Victor Davis Hanson: The 10 radical new rules that are changing America

By Victor Davis Hanson | The Center For American Greatness

There are 10 new ideas that are changing America, maybe permanently.

1. Money is a construct. It can be created from thin air. Annual deficits and aggregate national debt no longer matter much.

Prior presidents ran up huge annual deficits, but at least there were some concessions that the money was real and had to be paid back. Not now. As we near $30 trillion in national debt and 110 percent of annual GDP, our elites either believe permanent zero interest rates make the cascading obligation irrelevant, or the larger the debt, the more likely we will be forced to address needed income redistribution.

2. Laws are not necessarily binding anymore. Joe Biden took an oath to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." But he has willfully rendered federal immigration laws null and void. Some rioters are prosecuted for violating federal laws, others not so much. Arrests, prosecutions and trials are all fluid. Ideology governs when a law is still considered a law.

Crime rates do not necessarily matter. If someone is carjacked, assaulted or shot, it can be understood to be as much the victim’s fault as the perpetrator’s. Either the victim was too lax, uncaring and insensitive, or he provoked his attacker.

How useful the crime is to the larger agendas of the left determines whether a victim is really a victim, and the victimizer really a victimizer.

3. Racialism is now acceptable. We are defined first by our ethnicity or religion, and only secondarily — if at all — by an American commonality. The explicit exclusion of whites from college dorms, safe spaces and federal aid programs is now noncontroversial. It is unspoken payback for perceived past sins, or a type of "good" racism. Falsely being called a racist makes one more guilty than falsely calling someone else a racist.

4. The immigrant is mostly preferable to the citizen. The newcomer, unlike the host, is not stained by the sins of America’s founding and history. Most citizens currently must follow quarantine rules and social distancing, stay out of school and obey all the laws.

Yet those entering the United States illegally need not follow such apparently superfluous COVID-19 rules. Their children should be immediately schooled without worry of quarantine. Immigrants need not worry about their illegal entry or residence in America. Our elites believe illegal entrants more closely resemble the "founders" than do legal citizens, about half of whom they consider irredeemable.

5. Most Americans should be treated as we would treat little children. They cannot be asked to provide an ID to vote. "Noble lies" by our elites about COVID-19 rules are necessary to protect "Neanderthals" from themselves.

Americans deserve relief from the stress of grades, standardized testing and normative rules of school behavior. They still are clueless about why it is good for them to pay far more for their gasoline, heating and air conditioning.

6. Hypocrisy is passé. Virtue-signaling is alive. Climate change activists fly on private jets. Social justice warriors live in gated communities. Multibillionaire elitists pose as victims of sexism, racism and homophobia. The elite need these exemptions to help the helpless. It is what you say to lesser others about how to live, not how you yourself live, that matters.

7. Ignoring or perpetuating homelessness is preferable to ending it. It is more humane to let thousands of homeless people live, eat, defecate and use drugs on public streets and sidewalks than it is to green-light affordable housing, mandate hospitalization for the mentally ill and create sufficient public shelter areas.

8. McCarthyism is good. Destroying lives and careers for incorrect thoughts saves more lives and careers. Cancel culture and the Twitter Reign of Terror provide needed deterrence.

Now that Americans know they are one wrong word, act or look away from losing their livelihoods, they are more careful and will behave in a more enlightened fashion. The social media guillotine is the humane, scientific tool of the woke.

9. Ignorance is preferable to knowledge. Neither statue-toppling, nor name-changing, nor the 1619 Project require any evidence or historical knowledge. Heroes of the past were simple constructs. Undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees reflect credentials, not knowledge. The brand, not what created it, is all that matters.

10. Wokeness is the new religion, growing faster and larger than Christianity. Its priesthood outnumbers the clergy and exercises far more power. Silicon Valley is the new Vatican, and Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Twitter are the new gospels.

Americans privately fear these rules while publicly appearing to accept them. They still could be transitory and invite a reaction. Or they are already near-permanent and institutionalized.

The answer determines whether a constitutional republic continues as once envisioned, or warps into something never imagined by those who created it.

America at the End of Empire

By Mark Tapson | FRONTPAGE Magazine

Is civilizational decline reversible?

Ascendant China is hell-bent on world domination and makes no apology for it. America, meanwhile, is suffering from decades of accelerated, corrosive, Marxist subversion that has saddled us with a power-lusting leftist regime, aided and abetted by an unofficial state news media; a school system that has jettisoned rigorous education in favor of identity politics indoctrination; a woke corporate culture showering hundreds of millions of dollars on support for Critical Race training and on the communist revolutionaries of Black Lives Matter; an obscenely decadent entertainment industry (itself in thrall to Chinese influence) that peddles anti-Americanism, anti-Christianity, anti-capitalism, and anti-white racism; and a politicized military establishment prioritizing “gender equity” over warrior readiness.

In short, America (and the Western world more generally), once the most prosperous and powerful civilization in history, is no longer operating “from a position of strength.” It is, in fact, bleeding out from self-inflicted wounds, and our enemies foreign and domestic smell the blood in the water. Gatestone Institute Distinguished Senior Fellow Gordon Chang believes Chinese leader Xi Jinping is confident in provoking a civilizational war between East and West, because he feels “America is in terminal decline.” Indeed, the Chinese state media are already openly celebrating the Alaska confrontation as a decisive victory in that conflict.

The problem is “civilizational fatigue,” the concept that at some point a grand world power – e.g. ancient Rome, 19th-century England, America under a desiccated Joe Biden – peaks and then implodes (“gradually and then suddenly,” as a Hemingway character once put it when asked how he went bankrupt). The empire succumbs to lassitude, corruption, and moral decadence, undone by its very prosperity and success. Having conquered the world, the fire in its belly that powered it to the top cools to ash. It can no longer muster the civilizational conviction and warrior spirit necessary to keep the barbarians at the gates from swarming the battlements.

In our case, the barbarians – i.e., the forces of anti-civilization – have been inside the gates for over half a century, making their Long March through the institutions. We allowed their Marxist poison and their postmodern anti-rationality to seep throughout our schools and universities, and their false but seductive narratives to be promoted in our news and entertainment programs, until they secured the culture and corrupted the political landscape as well – so successfully that we elected, twice, a President who denied American exceptionalism, explicitly declared his agenda to “fundamentally transform” the country, and inspired his followers to believe, "Yes, we can."

Meanwhile, the cultural corrosion continued, as insidious, cancerous concepts like “whiteness,” “Critical Race Theory,” and “gender fluidity” began metastasizing at light-speed throughout every institution in America, inculcated in schoolchildren as young as kindergartners.

Finally, those of us who love our heritage, our Constitution, and our country rallied behind a President who called on us to Make America Great Again. But it was too little, too late. The barbarians, who had long since infiltrated and taken control of all the cultural structures of society, launched a furious, violent resistance against the President, against his supporters, against democracy, against history, against truth itself. They seized political control and began the systematic marginalization of America’s defenders as white supremacists (regardless of color) and domestic terrorists.

And now we find ourselves where the barbarians wanted us all along: at the end of empire.

Is civilizational decline inevitable? If history is any measure, then yes. Only the kingdom of God lasts forever. The question before us now, though, is this: is America’s decline reversible?

The answer is unequivocally yes. Even in Donald Trump’s brief White House tenure we saw America gathering momentum toward greatness again after eight years of Barack Obama diminishing our leading role on the world stage. We can do it again.

But it will take a courageous commitment from every American patriot on every level: personal, local, national, even international. We must recognize that the flame of American exceptionalism is in danger of being snuffed out, that our God-given rights are being threatened; and once gone, we will have no leverage with which to throw off the totalitarianism that will fill the void.

If Americans (and the rest of the West) hope to restore our former glory, we must begin by ceasing to be, as Bill Maher labeled us, a nation of silly people. We must be as serious as our enemies. We must reignite the fierce, uncompromising, give-me-liberty-or-give-me-death passion for independence that drove our Founding Fathers and George Washington’s ragtag army to persevere against an occupying power. We must ruthlessly reject the evil ideologies that have subverted us, and begin re-instilling our Judeo-Christian values, our love of country, our devotion to Constitutional rights, and our zeal for liberty in the next generation.

This will be an uphill battle. We will face violent leftist resistance, even more than we witnessed in 2020. But 74 million Trump voters make a formidable army. Can we make America great again? Yes, we can.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors is being called out as a “fraud” for buying an expensive home in an overwhelmingly white, secluded area of California.

The 37-year-old “trained Marxist” bought a $1.4 million, 2,400 square foot house in Topanga Canyon, where 88 percent of the population is white and less than 2 percent is black.

After critics on Twitter started sharing an article about the purchase, calling out the activist as a "fraud," Twitter stepped in to offer a "helping hand."

Tucker Carlson on Friday night told his Fox News viewers that Twitter had even begun taking down reference to the property.

Carlson noted that Whitlock posted on Twitter a link to the original story about the property, on the celebrity property blog The Dirt.

'He posted this on Twitter. Just made the obvious point. What? What happened? His account has been locked by Twitter,' said Carlson.

'This was a news story on real estate blog. He posted it. Lots of other people posted it. But when Jason Whitlock, who is an extremely effective voice for reason, who speaks clearly and honestly and is, therefore, a threat. They shut him down. Amazing, on many levels.' (Daily Mail)

GLOBALIST DOGMA MEANS THE END OF AMERICA, AND FOR MANY THAT’S THE GOAL

 BY PAUL MIRENGOFF | POWERLINE

John Fonte has written an excellent article called “End Nationalism, End America.” For many on the left, that’s the point. They may dislike nationalism, but what they really can’t stand is America. Their target isn’t the nation state; it’s our nation state. That’s why they want to cede as much of our sovereignty as they can get away with to international bodies.

Fonte writes:

If progressive liberal esteem for the democratic nation-state is low, the mainstream Left’s depiction of the American nation’s particular culture, people, institutions, and mores is even more negative. . . .

For more than 50 years, Americans have been educated by liberals who have told them that they are too racist, sexist, xenophobic, individualistic; too attached to their guns, religion, violence, and a glorified version of their history. Last year, progressivism’s discontent with American society exploded. The steady promotion of multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality has now morphed into a militant denunciation of the entire American project as “systemically racist,” calling for revolutionary “anti-racist” action.

The flagship of American liberalism is the New York Times. Its 1619 Project is the spearhead of an “anti-racist” ideology which seeks to reshape the American regime. Leading educational institutions, from Princeton University to the American Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Council of Teachers of English, and myriad others, have joined the “anti-racist” crusade.

(Emphasis added)

Left-liberals don’t just dislike American culture, people, institutions, and mores. They dislike our Constitution. Fonte points to a survey finding that 79 percent of Americans who describe themselves as “very liberal” (which comprised 40 percent of all liberals) and 70 percent of the just plain liberals favored replacing our Constitution.

Ceding sovereignty to international bodies is a way to negate the Constitution.

Fonte notes that political thinkers from Plato and Aristotle to Montesquieu and the American Founders have explained that an emotional attachment to one’s political community is necessary for its survival. But that presents no problem to those on the left who don’t want our political community to survive.

And that’s the sentiment of a great many American leftists. We can infer this from the same survey mentioned above. It found that 41 percent of very liberals and 33 percent of plain liberals would like to see our country renamed.

Ditch our nation’s Constitution and its name, and in a very real sense, you have ended America.

The internationalism of left-liberals is therefore a means to an end — the end of America. Fonte concludes:

Since leftists see Americans as too racist, sexist, and war-like, they naturally conclude that subordinating American power to global authority would help mitigate this problem. Fortuitously for the Left, this means power would reside with people like themselves: international lawyers, NGO advocates, and deracinated “global citizens.” At home, as Christopher Caldwell described in The Age of Entitlement, power would shift from elected officials to administrators and judges, because these experts are necessary to enforce equal outcomes for “oppressed” racial and gender groups.

This utopian dream of “substantive” equality for groups, of course, will never be achieved in a free society. Instead the Left’s agenda, if successfully implemented, would mean less freedom and less self-government—it would mean an overall move from republicanism (i.e., American constitutional democracy) towards administrative-judicial oli

Claiming state voting reforms are racist is ridiculous. I should know: Ken Blackwell

By Ken Blackwell | USA TODAY Opinion contributor

Photo: Ken Blackwell - "Claims that voter ID laws are racist are false. Most voters actually support voter ID requirements, and these reforms are helpful for safe elections."

Outrage from Democrats, corporations and Major League Baseball about voter identification requirements and Georgia's "Election Integrity Act of 2021" feels like leftovers reheated for the third time. Whenever Republicans propose commonsense voter ID measures to help safeguard our elections, liberals react by shouting that it is voter suppression and Jim Crow 2.0.

These claims are false, and they distract from the real issues of promoting election integrity and preventing fraud.

Hans von Spakovsky, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation, notes, "Virtually every person of voting age already has such IDs, and those who do not can easily get them. Every state with an ID requirement issues a free ID to anyone who doesn't already have one. Despite the empty howls of 'repression,' states that have implemented ID requirements have seen turnout go up, not down."

Just muddling the debate

Arguing voter ID is a form of voter suppression is a smokescreen designed to muddle the debate. Instead of lecturing us with false arguments, Democrats should listen to Black and Latino voters who support ID requirements because they understand we need to take simple steps to protect the sanctity of the ballot box.

Instead of debating the merits of voter ID and election regulations, liberals label them — and anyone supporting them — as racist in attempts to shut down any debate. For example, Stacey Abrams calls Georgia's law "a redux of Jim Crow in a suit and tie."

This is ridiculous. Abrams herself praised New Jersey’s new voting procedures, where voters get up to 10 days to vote early. Under Georgia’s new law, they get 17 days.

The data doesn't matter, the views of African Americans and Latinos don't matter, the actual text of the new law doesn’t matter. The hyperbolic rhetoric ignores the truth.

Liberals are now pushing a federal elections bill, H.R. 1, which they claim will eliminate “racist” state laws. This legislation sabotages state voter ID requirements by forcing states to allow anyone to vote, with or without an ID, if they sign an unverifiable statement attesting to their eligibility. Plainly stated the bill would eliminate voter ID in 35 states. What could go wrong?

If H.R. 1 is enacted, our elections will be vulnerable as decades of good governance will be thrown out and replaced with half-baked left-wing talking points. For example, states would be required to implement technology that doesn't exist, couldn't remove ineligible voters from voter rolls and would have to allow paid political operatives to collect absentee ballots.

Listen to the voters who largely support voter ID laws

Thankfully, the American people strongly disagree with a ban on voter ID, as an Associated Press poll found that 72% of respondents support it. Likewise, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll found 74% of Georgians supporting voter ID.

Digging deeper, the Rasmussen Reports found that wide margins of minority voters support voter ID as well: 69% of African Americans and 82% of other nonwhite minorities.

It never ceases to amaze me that Democrats believe African Americans don't have, and aren't capable of obtaining, an ID. Especially since you need an ID to do routine things such as open a bank account, drive a car, board a flight or pick up tickets at the will-call window at Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park. Most Americans have identification, and those who don't can quickly get one, as states such as Georgia provide free IDs to anyone who needs one.

Voter ID is the best election reform that states have adopted; hopefully all 50 will do so. If there was any hint of racism associated with it then I’d be the first to lead the charge against it. Likewise, the reforms in Georgia make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.

Biden confuses a victory with a mandate

By William Haupt III | The Center Square contributor

President Joe Biden speaks during a news conference in the East Room of the White House on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Washington. - Evan Vucci / AP

“Today, people are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.”

– Will Rogers

One of the most abused and misused terms by a recently elected president and his party is “a mandate.” As soon as the final points are on the board Election Eve, the winning candidate has a “mandate” to take over government and has unlimited power over the unsuspecting electorate.

Every election, we hear about “mandates” no matter by how large or small a margin of victory is. Our cat’s litter boxes have been lined with discarded newspaper headlines about stories regarding so-called election mandates for years. Winners always claim their victory was a mandate and the losers insist this is overreach. Yet most of these purports amount to nothing more than staking a claim to office. What value is a mandate except the right to brag? “I won and I am the new boss.”

In today’s political carnivals, it’s not uncommon for voters to say, “I didn’t like either guy so I voted for that guy since he was the lesser of two evils.” If someone wins an election by default since he is disliked less, how can he dare tell voters straight faced: “Now you decided I am the best candidate, I can begin filling my party’s wish list!”

“Hell, I never vote for, I always vote against.”

– W.C. Fields

Political scientists agree, there is no such thing as a “mandate” no matter how large or how small the margin of victory is for the winner. Political pundits, parties, pollsters, campaigners, the media and especially politicians jockey numbers to distort election reality. They arbitrarily mix and match popular and electoral votes to determine how to spin the wimpiest of victories into a voter mandate.

One Western think-tank study on voter expectations before and after elections shows clearly that mandates are about “perceived power of the office.” Voters do not give presidents unlimited power when they put them in office. Yet many presidents and their parties are convinced they do. When presidents need to justify abusing the boundaries of their office, they claim they have a “mandate”.

Progressive Woodrow Wilson notoriously abused his executive power justifying he had a mandate to expand his authority over inferiors in Congress, and naive citizens. Wilson also believed he had a mandate to replace everyone in government with legal scholars. Critics labeled his arrogance as “condescending” BS.

“There is a very thin line between confidence and arrogance.”

– Adam Peaty

Elected during the Depression, Franklin Roosevelt said voters gave him a “mandate” to pass his New Deal. His grandiose menu included something for everyone. He claimed expanding federalism was a voter mandate. Historians and scholars disagree. This was FDR’s mandate, not voters. And up to his untimely death, he never ended the Depression, which was the “voters mandate” not his.

One president used “the mandate” as an excuse for his failures. For four agonizing years, Jimmy Carter, elected by default after Watergate and Vietnam, placed greater emphasis on methods and procedures for making policy than on its content. When media and voters queried his failures, he’d respond, “I only do what I was elected to do within the size and scope of the mandate given to me.”

Ronald Reagan entered office by handily defeating Carter in 1980 with a mandate to repair the broken economy. In March 1981, when he was shot by John Hinckley, his job rating soared to 69%.

“Tell Nancy I forgot to duck! I’m just glad they were all Republicans today.”

– Ronald Reagan

But when voters became impatient with Reaganomics and the economy still floundered, his rating plummeted to 39% by 1983. Eventually, his job rating improved and he defeated Walter Mondale in the 1984 election. Reagan carried 49 states, and won 525 electoral votes out of 538, the most in American history. This was only possible because Reagan fulfilled the “voter’s mandate” – not his.

Reagan has consistently placed third in Gallup’s yearly survey that asks Americans who was our greatest president. In 1999, on his 90th birthday, he topped the list. Gallup asked them why they picked him number one that year. And the majority of them responded: “Because the voters gave him a mandate to fix the broken economy and to reduce unemployment and he did exactly that.”

Political polarization and finger pointing who is to blame frequently results in presidential mandate rhetoric to silence critics. This is especially true if they do not have a Congress that supports their agendas. George W. Bush was over-indulged with condemnation for the Iraq War and security polices by media demagogues after 9-11. He adamantly defended his actions, asserting that the American people gave him a mandate to avenge and prevent future terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.

Barack Obama was elected to end the Recession in 2008. But he used his “mandate” on a trillion dollar stimulus bill that created zero private-sector jobs. He federalized private health care, gave tax dollars to failed green energy, used IRS money to punish critics and blamed Benghazi on a video. Democrats fell from power when voters had the chance to totally negate Obama’s leftist mandate.

“Elections have consequences, and, in case there was any doubt, I won.”

– Barack Obama)

Progressives remind us daily that Joe Biden got more votes than anyone in history. But they forget to mention it was due to blue states no-rules-barred mail-in voting. They also avoid reminding us that people turned out in record numbers to defeat Biden! And Donald Trump received the second highest vote total in history. Trump won every state that did not arbitrarily mail out ballots. And Biden only won by a wimpy 4%? Yet the left continues to boast voters gave Biden an undisputable mandate?

Hours after Joe Biden was declared the winner, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi proudly announced to America, “Voters have given President Biden an overwhelming mandate to lead, and showed their support for the Democrats' platform over Trump’s failed policies. And Joe Biden even got a bigger mandate than president Kennedy had. And we have a strong Democratic House to support him!”

“The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.”

– Thomas Sowell

Sweeping gains in one election have become so common that the idea of a mandate is ludicrous! But that does not faze politicians in contentious elections. Biden eked out a disputed victory over Trump, yet the left is crying mandate! They’re convinced America chose socialism over capitalism.

Skeptics now wonder how the left ever forgot that Biden was only a substitute for a real candidate.

Facts don’t matter to the left if they win, even if 50% of the people voted against them. This is no mandate. When presidents use mandate rhetoric to force party politics on voters and don’t govern for the entire nation, voters send them packing in a New York City minute next election. Voters will always put their survival over politics.

“Much of the social history of the western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good.”

– Thomas Sowell

Facebook did not hire Black employees because they were not a 'culture fit,' report says

By Yelena Dzhanova  | Insider

  • Three Black people allege Facebook chose not to hire them because they weren't a "culture fit."
  • "There's no doubt you can do the job," a manager said before using the culture-fit line, a report says.
  • Critics have criticized the idea of a "culture fit," arguing it sidelines people of color.

After initial reports of Facebook turning down Black applicants for positions because they weren't a "culture fit," more people have filed complaints alleging similar experiences.

Washington Post article published Tuesday said three Black applicants were rejected from jobs at Facebook despite having met all the qualifications.

The three applicants filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency that investigates workplace discrimination.

"There's no doubt you can do the job, but we're really looking for a culture fit," one hiring manager told one of the three candidates, according to The Post.

A Facebook operations manager, Oscar Veneszee Jr., told the paper he believes several qualified applicants he referred to jobs at the company were rejected because they weren't a "culture fit."

"When I was interviewing at Facebook, the thing I was told constantly was that I needed to be a culture fit, and when I tried to recruit people, I knew I needed [to] find people who were a culture fit," he told The Post. "But unfortunately not many people I knew could pass that challenge because the culture here does not reflect the culture of Black people."

The EEOC began investigating Facebook last summer over bias allegations, The Post added.

Critics have criticized workplaces pursuing the idea of a "culture fit" in their hiring practices because, they argue, it creates an inclination to hire white workers while sidelining people of color.

In a 2018 article published by the Society for Human Resource Management, a professional membership association in Alexandria, Virginia, one HR expert said "culture fit" is subjective and indicates the hiring decision is largely not based "on the candidate's ability to deliver results."

A Facebook spokesperson, when reached for comment, gave the following statement.

"We've added diversity and inclusion goals to senior leaders' performance reviews. We take seriously allegations of discrimination and have robust policies and processes in place for employees to report concerns, including concerns about microaggressions and policy violations," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said the company did not take "culture fit" into account when hiring for jobs.

Rhett Lindsey, a former recruiter with Facebook, told The Post, "There is no culture fit check mark on an application form, but at Facebook it is like this invisible cloud that hangs over candidates of color."

Corporate America’s ‘Big Lie’

 By Kimberley A. Strassel

Images: Zuma Press/Getty Images Composite: Mark Kelly

ID requirements are no more racist at the ballot box than they are on a Delta flight.

Potomac Watch: CEOs denounce Georgia’s election law, but have they read it?

Corporate chieftains last year criticized Donald Trump for denying his re-election defeat. So it’s quite a spectacle to see them actively spreading the left’s own big lie about elections.

According to Delta CEO Ed Bastian, there is only one reason Georgia passed a voting reform: to suppress the votes of black Americans and other minorities. Georgia’s Republican Legislature used the “excuse” of voter fraud to “make it harder for many underrepresented voters” to “exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives,” Mr. Bastian wrote this week in a memo to employees.

Mr. Bastian has plenty of company in the C-suites. Some 72 black executives, including the CEO of Merck and a former CEO of American Express, signed an open letter calling on corporate colleagues to fight “undemocratic” and “un-American” GOP efforts across the states to “assault” the “fundamental tenets of our democracy.” Coca-ColaMicrosoft and Apple chimed in, and dozens more are readying outraged press releases.

Nancy Pelosi couldn’t be more thrilled. Democrats and the activist left have long honed their techniques for intimidating corporations. They successfully pressured companies into withdrawing contributions from free-market groups, into embracing a climate-change agenda, into refraining from political contributions, into adopting new “social” investment criteria.

Enlisting corporate America to help peddle a patently false narrative is their biggest success by far. The left spent last year using litigation and political pressure to alter and weaken election standards across the country. Democratic lawmakers and the Biden administration moved swiftly to cement this effort with a federal takeover of state election law, the bill known as H.R.1.

Its enactment is still no sure thing, so the left is trying to block election-reform efforts at the state level. Central to this campaign is the dishonest claim that Republicans are launching these efforts only because they lost the White House and because they want to cripple the minority vote. Activists have spent weeks threatening companies that didn’t join them with boycotts, protests and the label of “Jim Crow racists,” and companies have complied.

Thus the sight of the nation’s top business leaders monotonously reciting a fact-free narrative. As they know, state legislatures are moving to reaffirm longstanding rules and restore confidence in electoral systems that were arbitrarily remade during Covid. ID requirements are no more racist at the ballot box than on a Delta flight. Some 36 states have them, and they’ve been upheld by the Supreme Court. It isn’t Jim Crow to codify the use of the ad hoc drop boxes that sprung up last year. It isn’t voter suppression to reaffirm that activists aren’t allowed to approach voters in line, especially to solicit votes with gifts (contrary to urban legend, the Georgia law allows poll workers to provide water). The Georgia law expands voting, adding early voting on more weekends and providing additional equipment and poll workers in larger precincts.

Mr. Bastian’s moralizing memo fails to cite a single one of the supposedly “egregious measures” in the bill that will suppress the vote, although he does stress he hears his employees’ “pain.”

The letter from the 72 executives misstates the Georgia rules, suggesting the only way to satisfy the ID requirement is with a driver’s license, even though “200,000 Georgians lack a license.” In fact, voters can also use a free, state-issued nondriver ID, and those who lack one can fulfill the requirement with a Social Security number or even a copy of a “current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck.” The letter suggests the Georgia “playbook”—enacting rules less onerous than those in many blue states, as Karl Rove has noted in these pages—is of a piece with “police dogs, poll taxes, literacy taxes.” One can only hope Merck is more rigorous when conducting pharmaceutical trials.

Corporate CEOs may think this virtue signaling will spare them the left’s boycotts or Democrats’ punitive legislative measures. That’s a sucker’s bet given this week’s Democratic plan to siphon $2.3 trillion from corporations to fund new spending. Meanwhile, longtime Republican defenders of corporate activity are rapidly losing interest in aiding CEOs who promote partisan conspiracy theories. Witness Sen. Marco Rubio’s fuming tweet on Thursday calling Delta a “woke corporate hypocrite,” noting that the company is “business partners with the Chinese Communist Party,” raking in “billions of dollars in a country that doesn’t even have elections.”

Smart executives have long understood the value of political neutrality. Corporate America is now throwing its lot in with one of the most partisan, brass-knuckle, dishonest campaigns in recent political history. It will be a long time mending fences with Republicans—if that’s even possible.

'No Gestapo Here!': Polish Pastor Tosses Canadian Police Out of Good Friday Church Service

Calgary police were met with resistance when they attempted to shut down a Good Friday church service for violating COVID restrictions. Artur Pawlowski, the pastor at The Cave of Adullam, told police to leave and not return until they have a search warrant in hand.

"You come back with a warrant," Pawlowski said. "Out! Out! Out!"

Police were hesitant to leave but the pastor wasn't backing down. "Out of this property, you Nazis!" Pawlowski shouted. "Gestapo is not allowed here!"

As police left the property, Pawlowski told them "not to come back, you Nazi psychopaths."

"Unbelievable sick, evil people. Intimidating people in a church during the Passover! You Gestapo, Nazi, communist fascists! Don’t you dare come back here!” he shouted as they walked away.

The pastor turned the camera to face him.

“Can you imagine those psychopaths? Passover, the holiest Christian festival in a year and they’re coming to intimidate Christians during the holiest festival? Unbelievable," Pawlowski said. "What is wrong with those sick psychopaths? It’s beyond me. Wow. Wow. How dare they?"

“Unbelievable. We’re living in a total takeover of the government with their thugs, goons, the brown shirts, the Gestapo wannabe dictators,” an incredulous Pawlowski said. “Coming to the church armed with guns and tasers and handcuffs to intimidate during Passover celebration? Well, I guess that’s what it is, they want to enslave us all like the Egyptians did. They want to be the Pharaohs of today, that’s what they’re doing. Unbelievable. People, if you don’t stand up, wake up, wow. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow.”

The pastor warned about Germany, where "wannabe Hitlers are already ruling" and fascism is reigning once again. He took particular issue with the country's lockdown.

He referenced the COVID passports that are being talked about and potentially implemented.

"If you will not be vaccinated like a dog or a cat, you will not be able to buy or sell. You will not be able to go to school or work. Is that the future you want?" Pawlowski asked. "Is that what you want for your children and your grandchildren?"

According to the pastor, the time to stand up and push back against the out-of-control government is now.
