The S.S Jeremiah O'Brien, named for an Irish-born
American Revolutionary War hero, and one of the last of the hundreds of Liberty
Ships produced during WWII, silhouetted by the great fire today on Pier
45. She has a triple-expansion steam engine which took her back to the
Normandy beaches as the only full-size ship to return there after fifty years.

President Reagan gave this speech at Arlington National
Cemetery in 1985. I hope this will help people to reflect on the true meaning
of Memorial Day. May those that have fallen in the fight for freedom Rest In
Peace and may their families know that their sacrifice will never be
forgotten.
